One of Hawaii's natural wonders,
Black Rock is a large, dark piece of hardened lava. The site has
played a significant part in the history of natives in the area.
Today, it's a place that people from all over the world travel to
see when they're on Maui. It's not much when you think about it -
a big black rock - but on the other hand, it's actually pretty
impressive. At least impressive enough that people still today
travel to see it and marvel at its wonder.
If you do go to Black Rock, there is more to do there than just
gawk at the lava. The area is actually |
great for snorkeling, offering some
wonderful dive opportunities to see ocean life up close and personal.
There is a beach with lifeguards, but you should use caution when
swimming around the rock as the currents can get a little
unpredictable at times. This shouldn't stop you from swimming with
this large natural wonder in the background, though.
For the natives, Black Rock held special significance as it was a
place their spirits and ancestors crossed over after death. Today,
it's known as a great recreational spot. In fact, many locals and
visitors try diving off the cliffs of Black Rock into the waters
below. While this might not be for everyone, there are so many resorts
and other things to do nearby that you won't be lacking for something
to do, even if it's just relaxing on the beach with a drink admiring
the beauty of the lava.
