The Delmonte Pineapple Corner (also
known to some as the Del Monte Variety Garden) was located a
little outside Wahiawa, planted in a triangle of land at the
intersection of two highways. With its origins in the 1950s, the
garden was uprooted in 2004 when Del Monte failed to renew a lease
with the George Galbraith Trust for the land that included the
garden. It had been a favorite stop for a lot of people since it
was first planted.
Before being destroyed, it was a collection of pineapples from all
over the world, all in one place. |
It was a perfect small stop to have a
picnic lunch or just wonder at all the different types and varieties
of pineapple that were available. While Del Monte destroyed the garden
that had been enjoyed by so many for so many years, it's still a stop
for a lot of people in the area - both locals and tourists. It's
different than it was in its prime, but the Del Monte Pineapple Corner
won't be forgotten.
A lot of locals were confused when Del Monte tore down the original
Del Monte Pineapple Corner, but time went on. Back in the day, it was
the definitive place to learn all about pineapples on Hawaii. With so
many different varieties, it was quite a marvel - something small that
still attracted a lot of people from all over who loved the garden. If
you're in Wahiawa, this is a nice side destination, something to check
out on your way somewhere else.
