Fort DeRussy Oahu

Fort DeRussy Back to the Future at Fort DeRussy

Built in 1915 to help protect Honolulu and Pearl Harbor, Fort DeRussy housed cannons, then anti-aircraft artillery. In 1950, it was designated an armed forces recreational area. Since then, it's been a great park for people from all over. With great views and history attached to the land, it's a must see destination if you're going to be in the area. Just a short distance from Waikiki, the park pays tribute to men and women from all branches of the military.

Beyond the historic significance of the spot and all the remnants and memories of World War II and earlier, there's the beauty of the land. This is one of the most likely reasons this spot was turned into a recreational area when it was no longer needed for military use. With a collection of various sized buildings on the land, there's a lot to do and see at Fort DeRussy. And admission is free, which makes it a great destination if you're trying to save a few bucks for other things. You will be charged for parking, though, unless you take the bus, which drops people off and returns them throughout the day.

Even if you don't know or care about the military significance in the area's past, the beauty of the well cared for landscape really takes you away. Fort DeRussy is almost an oasis within the oasis that is Hawaii. Protected from the outside world, Fort DeRussy has been a great location to rest and relax for people from all walks of life. Learning a little bit about some of the heroes and heroines from the US military is a great bonus when visiting Fort DeRussy.
