Hanauma Bay

Hanauma Bay Hanauma Bay was declared an underwater park in 1967, which gave it special protections. This is because the area is so spectacularly beautiful and needs to be preserved so future generations can benefit from the natural beauty and wonder. If you're going to be in Hawaii, this is somewhere that you have to see. This Bay is one of the most amazing natural resources in all of Hawaii.

Starting in 1990, the local government spent 12 years restoring the area. The results of all that work are evident to the many people who visit the area

each and every year. The beach at Hanauma Bay isn't one that you're probably accustomed to - it's not a park with swimming, etc. However, if you have any interest in natural beauty and all the work that's been done to save this bay in Hawaii, this stop is worth the time.

Located near Waikiki, the Hanauma Bay theater puts on shows every Thursday night at 6:30 p.m. No reservations are needed, but you should check with the Hanauma Bay Education Program at (808) 397-5840. Parking is free for these events. This is just one example of the many different things you can do at Hanauma Bay. They even offer special wheelchairs to accommodate disabled visitors.

If you're going to be in Southeast O'ahu, you simply can't miss the natural beauty that's available. Once you see it for yourself, you'll know why so much effort was put into restoring and protecting the fragile aquatic ecosystem. For current hours of operation, it's best to call ahead and make sure they're going to be open. If you enjoy all things aquatic, you're not going to be disappointed. In fact, you're going to want to spend a lot of time here.
