Natatorium on Oahu Hawaii

Natatorium Oahu This memorial is actually a large arch with four statues of eagles. It has a special meaning, though. The Waikiki War Memorial and Natatorium was built in 1927 to honor men from Hawaii who were killed in WWI. The arch is actually the entrace to the Natatorium, or a large public swimming pool. If you're visiting today, though, don't bother bringing your swimming gear as the salt water pool is closed to the public. It's still quite a sight to behold.

Now is a good time to see the Waikiki War Memorial and Natatorium because there is still a lot of talk about restoring it more. A lot of work has been done
to keep it looking good over 80 years after it was built, but there many people still want to see more done with it. You can still visit it if you're in Honolulu, and it is quite a piece of architecture, but there's not a lot to do other than look around and take pictures if you're so inclined.

That said, the Waikiki War Memorial and Natatorium is still somewhere you should visit if you're on Oahu. Not a lot of people think about World War I anymore, but when something is built to honor men from the past, it's usually something you're going to want to take a look at if you're already in the area. The memorial and Natatorium may not be why people travel to Hawaii, but if you're going to be there, it's somewhere you should stop and see at least for a little bit. If you have a love for architecture, you're going to love it. Others will be amazed as well, though.
