If you are a military buff or have an
afternoon to fill, the US Army Museum in Honolulu, Hawaii (on the
grounds of the Hale Koa Hotel and the Ft. DeRussy Recreation
Center in Waikiki) is a great way to spend some time learning
about the history of the military and Hawaii. From ancient times
to the Iraq War, the museum has information on a wide swath of
Hawaiian military history.
With an immersive multi-media presentation for each time period,
you will feel like you were really there when you experience the
exhibits. If you are visiting, the museum is open Tuesday through |
Saturday from 9 am until 5 pm. They are closed Sunday & Monday. While
admission is free, donations are always welcome and appreciated. When
you think about all the museum does for the area, slipping a few bucks
in the donation tin won't be so difficult.
If you are traveling with a group and want a tour, you can call (808)
955-9552 to set something up. Sometimes, though, visiting a place like
this is best done alone. It all depends on what type of person you
are. The General Eric K. Shinseki Exhibit is a big attraction because
Shinseki was a man that played a big part in the history of Hawaii. If
you are in Honolulu and need something to see between other events or
destinations, the US Army Museum may be the ticket for you. At the
price (free), it can't be beat.
